After a nine-month review process, KWA is proud to announce that Hillside West Senior Living in Oak Cliff, Texas, was recently awarded a LEED Silver certification. The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) recognized Oak Cliff’s only senior living facility, Hillside West Senior Living, with a LEED Silver designation for achievement in green homebuilding and design. The USGBC’s LEED for Homes program is a green home certification program that rewards homes that are designed and built to be energy- and resource-efficient, as well as healthier and more durable for occupants. For Hillside West Senior Living’s certification, the KWA team completed a technically rigorous process that included a home energy rating (HERS) and onsite inspections to verify that the project was built to be energy and water efficient, environmentally sound and a healthier place to live.
“We are thrilled that Hillside West Senior Living received its LEED Silver rating,” said KWA Construction Project Manager Dennis Downey. “Our KWA team, along with our designers and engineers, were extremely diligent with our building, design and construction materials decisions, so as to ensure that we were creating a first-class senior living facility that would meet the highest of standards set by USGBC.”
Hillside West Senior Living, housing residents ages 55+, is located in the rapidly growing area of The Canyon in Oak Cliff. This 130-unit, senior-customized complex provides affordable housing options within a 200-plus-acre area of Oak Cliff, Texas, which is currently undergoing a $600 MM mixed-use, master-planned revitalization project of residential, retail and office developments.
KWA was hired by Ground Floor Development to build the 155,846 square-foot, affordable housing development, which is situated on a unique parcel shape of land in North Oak Cliff. This odd shape posed a challenge to construct the complex exactly to the developer’s directive – provide as many views of Downtown as possible, create easy access to all of the property’s amenities within enclosed air-conditioned corridors, and maximize the number of units possible, all while ensuring a senior-safe environment for the residents that meets LEED for Homes standards. KWA met the challenge and delivered the developer’s vision by selecting appropriate building materials, working closely with the city and collaborating with the designers and consultants.
The Hillside West Senior Living development marked KWA’s fourth senior housing project to complete. Some of KWA’s other completed 55+ developments include Heritage Village Residences, located in Hurst, Texas, and McDermott Crossing, located in Plano, Texas.
